Soccer Adds Eight for 2018

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team added eight new players for the upcoming 2018 season as announced by Head Coach Allison Gibson on Wednesday. The new Bengal additions represent five states including Arizona, Hawai'i, Idaho, Washington and Texas.

"We are really excited about this 2018 class because it is filled with the talent and depth that we have been looking for," Gibson said. "We had some big shoes to fill in our defense, and this class looks to fill those voids right away. Our current team is ready to welcome this group into the Bengal family and hit the road running on our quest for a great 2018 season."

Lauren Bollinger

Bollinger will look to contribute to the Bengals after a stellar career at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Ariz. Bollinger played four years of varsity soccer for the Lancers, where she helped her team earn rankings of No. 2 in the state and No. 30 nationally. She also led the Lancer's to back-to-back Brandon Bean Tournament championships, as well a state championship in 2016-17 after a runner up finish in 2015-16. Bollinger is a two-time AIA All-Section team selection and the Breakthrough Player of the Year, but she also excelled in the classroom. Bollinger was named to the Distinguished Scholar Honor Roll and Headmasters Honor Roll in addition to earning the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Bollinger will enroll in the fall and plans to pursue a degree in exercising science with a minor in business.

Karlin Wurlitzer

Wurlitzer, a 5-foot-10 defender from the island of O'ahu, will make her way to Pocatello this fall. In her three year varsity soccer career at Mililani High School, Wurlitzer led her team to three-straight OIA Division 1 championships (2016, 2017, 2018) and a third-place finish in the state tournament last season. During her junior year, Wurlitzer was an OIA First Team selection, a First Team All-Tournament selection and an All-State First Team Defender. An outstanding scholar, Wurlitzer also carries a 4.0 GPA and was named a National Merit Scholar as well as a 2018 Presidential Scholar candidate. She intends to major in biology when she starts classes at Idaho State this fall.

Chandler Bass

Bass, a 5-foot-3 defender from Waipahu, Hawaii, is set to graduate this spring from the Mid-Pacific Institue. An all-around athlete, Bass has played 10 years of soccer as well as seven years of gymnastics, three years of cross country and golf, and two years of volleyball. During her high school career, Bass led her team to five first place finishes including the 2014 ILH Championship, the 2015 HYSA State Championship, 2015 President's Cup Regional Championship, 2015 President's Cup State Championship and 2016 Surf Cup Championship. Bass was also named to her school's honor roll and plans to major in health informatics with a minor in business when she arrives in Pocatello this fall.

Delaney Uyeshiro  

Uyeshiro is a 5-foot-5 defender out of Queen Creek, Ariz. She's a four-year varsity veteran for Perry High School, and she has led her team to a No. 1 Arizona Premier League ranking, a No. 2 state ranking and a No. 10 national ranking. She also led her team to a Division 1-Section 1 regional championship, a Division 1 Premier Region runner-up finish, an Arizona state championship Final Four appearance, back-to-back championships at the Campo High Tournament (2017 and 2018) and a championship three-peat at the Dobson Classic Tournament (2016, 2017 and 2018). Uyeshiro was named the Perry High School Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 and earned the Impact Defensive Player of the Year in both 2016 and 2017. Uyeshiro plans on majoring in dental hygiene when she arrives at Idaho State in the fall.

Jenna Parkhurst

Parkhurst is a 5-foot-7 center forward out of Scottsdale, Ariz. and is set to graduate this spring from Horizon High School. She's a two-time Golden Boot award winner for the Huskies and was named to the Arizona High School Association All-Region First Team. In 2014, Parkhurst was named the Horizon High School Offensive Player of the Year and also earned Division I First Team and All-District honors. She participated in the US Club ID2 training camp and was an ODP State Pool selection, and she also earned Region IV All-Tournament Team honors. Parkhurst has also been active in her community and her classroom as she is a National Honors Society member, a member of the Society of Women's Scholars, DECA and part of the mentor program. Parkhurst plans to major in nursing when she arrives in Pocatello this fall.

Sydney Lange

Lange, a 5-foot-3 midfielder out of Dupont, Wash., will graduate from Steilacoom High School this spring. She helped her high school team to its first-ever state qualification, and she led her club team, Blackhills FC, to a Washington State Cup Championship title in 2016 as well as the title at the Adidas Clash at the Border Championships in 2017. Lange is also an accomplished swimmer and runner at Steilacoom. As a swimmer, Lange finished third in the state in the 200m freestyle relay and fourth in the 400m relay to help her team to an overall fifth place state finish. She's currently part of the school-record setting team for both the 400m relay and 200m relay. Lange plans to major in education when she arrives in Pocatello this fall.

Delaney Johnston

Johnston, a 5-foot-6 midfielder/defender out of Boise, Idaho, is set to graduate this spring from Centennial High School. She's a two-time Idaho 5A All-Conference selection (2016 and 2017), an Idaho 5A Senior All-Star Game selection and a 2017-18 Region IV Pool Player. She helped Centennial to 5A state championship titles in 2017 and 2015 as well as back-to-back district championships in 2015 and 2016. She helped lead her club team, the Boise National Timbers, to back-to-back Idaho State Cup championship titles in 2016 and 2015, and helped the Timbers advance to the quarterfinals of the Far West Regionals in 2016. Johnston plans to major in psychology/criminology when she arrives at Idaho State this fall.

Sydney Normand

Normand is a 5-foot-6 goalkeeper out of Spring, Texas and has already arrived in Pocatello following her December 2017 graduation from Klein Collins High School. During her career at Klein Collins, Normand earned First Team All-District honors and was named both the overall MVP and the defensive MVP for the Tigers. She is an active volunteer, and participated in clean-up efforts following hurricane Harvey in addition to working for an ExxonMobil sponsored dog wash and volunteering for her church. Normand was also a National Honors Society member. She plans to major in psychology.
