POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team welcomes two additions for the 2018-19 season as announced by Head Coach Mark Rodel on Tuesday afternoon. The Bengals signed both Gergo 'Gary' Rendek and Fynn Lohse who will join the Bengals next fall.

"The early signing period was truly a team effort, and I feel both incoming players have made a strong commitment toward ISU by signing early," Rodel said. "We are excited to have Gary and Fynn join our team."

Rendek will arrive in Pocatello as a junior after spending two seasons at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz. During his time so far at MCC, Rendek has been named First Team All-American in addition to earning the Academic Student-Athlete Award. In his first season with the Thunderbirds, Rendek advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship at No. 2 doubles with current Bengals David Felix. He also advanced to the quarterfinals at the No. 5 singles spot.

"Gary is an All American JC transfer from Mesa Community College," Rodel said. "He was a referral from his coach Ali Borhani and current ISU player David Felix. I had the opportunity to watch Gary compete at the JC Nationals this past spring where he made a big impression on me. Gary is a great tennis player with a big upside that will have an immediate impact on our team. More importantly, in getting to know Gary during the recruiting process he has shown to be one of the hardest working, dedicated and focused young men that I have met. Gary is an exceptional student and has a proven track record of setting goals and achieving them."

Lohse will arrive in Pocatello next season as a freshman. The 6-foot-4 inch Kaltenkirchen, Germany native currently ranks No. 96 in the under-18 age section in Germany and 547th overall. His is ranked third under-18 regionally and 17th overall in his region. Lohse won the Under 18 Regional Team Championship in 2015.

"Fynn is an impressive young man, and I feel that he is a great addition to our team based on several factors including his athleticism, attacking style of play, compact strokes, ability to move into the court and of course his height that all combine to make him a player with formidable upside," Rodel said. "Despite Fynn joining us as a freshman, his level of maturity and vision for his future are impressive, and I am confident that his objectives for his academics and athletics align well with ISU athletics and tennis."
