POCATELLO, Idaho- Spring football comes to a close Saturday with the final scrimmage at Noon at the ICCU Practice Field. As
Mike Kramer enters his sixth season he is pleased with the progress his team has made and the depth he has had.
"This is the first time we have gone 15 practices in spring since I have been here," Kramer said. "It has been outstanding. It needed to be outstanding coming off a 2-9 season."
One of the many reasons spring has been so good is because of the progress sophomore quarterback
Tanner Gueller has shown.
"We are led by our play at quarterback with Tanner," Kramer said. "He has become the sophomore 20-year old third-year player that we knew he was going to be. Matt (Troxel) has done a nice job with him but give Tanner most of the credit because he is the guy who has had to elevate his play."
As spring practices prepares to come to a close Kramer said he is also pleased with the play of redshirt sophomore
Kyle Jones at right tackle.
"
Kyle Jones has come out nowhere to be a fixture at right tackle which is really cool." Kramer said. "That is exciting for us."
While Jones has impressed the coaches, the offensive line is a little thin due to injuries.
"Nobody has depth at this level," Kramer said. "We are thin now and it will be a little dicey on Saturday."
On defense, Kramer said he has been pleased with the performance of the linebackers.
"I am very much enamored by the play of our linebacking core and that is without Mario and a real healthy
Kody Graves," Kramer said. "
Jayson Miller and
Nikko Hayes have played outstanding at safety."
Kramer added that because of how "chipped up" the offensive line is that the scrimmage will be quick.
"I would like to see us get in and get out with no injuries," he said.
