POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's track and field team was picked to finish seventh with 78 points in the 2016 Big Sky Indoor Preseason Coaches' Poll released Friday, January 15. The women's team was picked to finish 11th with 34 points.
Northern Arizona topped the men's poll with 141 points after receiving nine of the 12 first place votes. Sacramento State received two first place votes to put them in second with 122 points and Montana State was chosen to finish third with 112 points.
On the women's side Sacramento State received six of the 12 first place votes to earn the top position with 138 points. Northern Arizona and Montana State each received three first place votes to finish second and third with 128 and 115 points.
At last year's Big Sky Indoor Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., the men finished fifth and the women finished tenth.
Deante Gaines (triple jump) and
Katie Nicholls (800m) both won Big Sky Championships and return for the 2016 season.
The 2016 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted by Montana State in Bozeman, Montana, on February 25-27.
The Bengals begin the 2016 indoor season today as they host the Snake River Open inside Holt Arena.
