Goeltz Announces Retirement as Tennis Coach

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State tennis coach Bobby Goeltz has announced his retirement after 25 years  as the head coach of the men's and women's programs. Prior to coming to Idaho State in 1991, Goeltz was the head coach of the Maryland tennis program for 10 years.

"We appreciate all that coach Goeltz did for our tennis program during his 25 years as a Bengal," Idaho State Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey said. "Being in charge of both programs isn't easy and he did it well. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

During Goeltz's time in Pocatello he coached 69 all-conference tennis players, 38 on the men's side and 31 on the women's. He coached four Big Sky Conference MVP's in Malcom Swan in 2003 and Mike Castrill was a three-time MVP, winning the honor from 1992-94.

Goeltz was the 2003 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year on the men's side after leading his team to a second-place finish. That year three of his players earned first-team all-conference.  The men finished second five times under Goeltz's watch (1997, 1999, 2003, 2004 and 2013).

The women finished second three times (1991, 1992 and 1996) and third four times (1999, 2000, 2003 and 2004).

For his career he has amassed over 500 wins.

"It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the Idaho State Athletic Department for the past 25 years," Goeltz said. "I have enjoyed working with the staff and administration during those years well as the many student athletes. It is time for me to start a new chapter in my life and spend more time with family. As a result, I am submitting my resignations as of the end of the current contract. Thank you for all of your support over the years."
