POCATELLO, Idaho- In front nice crowd on the ICCU Practice Field, the Idaho State football team closed out spring football practice with the Dave Kragthorpe Classic on Saturday. The offense finished the afternoon with six touchdowns while the defense forced three turnovers.
"I am so excited to coach here, have this facility and this support," Idaho State coach
Mike Kramer said. "That was fabulous. The city of Pocatello, fans and everybody feels like they are a part of it now.
The fans in attendance saw the quarterback duo of
Tanner Gueller and
James Delacenserie combine for 408 yard and four touchdowns. Â Gueller threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns while Delacenserie threw for 147 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
"They got better but they have a hundred miles to go," Kramer said on the play of his quarterbacks. "I know we have 29 more practices before we play a game and our quarterbacks are going to need every rep."
Jakori Ford led the running game with 139 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
Broc Malcom led the wide receivers with two touchdowns on 134 yards receiving and five receptions. After the scrimmage Malcom received the Most Improved Offensive Player award for the spring.
"He became a go-to guy," Kramer said. "In years past he has been a big play guy, not a go-to guy. The go-to guy goes back-to-back-to-back plays. I thought that was good for Broc and he showed it during the spring."
Hayden Stout and
Jeremiah Hazard each had seven tackles while
Tyler Kuder had five tackles, two sacks and three pass deflections.
Following the scrimmage, Kramer said Kuder was dominant all afternoon.
"He had a dominant day and he is playing against a very good offensive front," Kramer said. "He played the way I think he can play all the time."
Kyle Leblanc and
Micah Breland each had interceptions while
James Madison recovered a fumble.
Following the spring scrimmage, Kramer said that one area he wants to see improved his how well his team plays after team.
"We played hard for about a quarter and a half," Kramer said. "We went to halftime and we lolli-gagged through the third quarter which is not a scrimmage issue. It is a game issue for us. You look back last year and our third quarters were awful and the one in Bozeman is what lost us the Big Sky Championship. We have to be better at the 2/3 mark. That is up to me and I noticed it today."
Following the scrimmage the Bengal coaching staff handed out awards to the team.
