POCATELLO, Idaho- On Saturday, Evan Smith will be latest Idaho State Bengal and the first since 2009 to be inducted into the Ring of Honor. Smith will become the 18
th Bengal to receive the honor and he will be honored at halftime of Saturday's football game vs. Eastern Washington.
"We are thrilled to welcome Evan back to Pocatello," Idaho State Director of Athletics
Jeff Tingey. "Evan had a great career at Idaho State and it has been fun to follow his success in the NFL. Since graduating from Idaho State he has continued to be a great ambassador of the university and we appreciate his support he has provided in helping us enhance our student-athlete experience."
After redshirting in 2004, Smith started and played in 10 games at left guard in 2005 and was a three-year starter his final three years in Pocatello. Smith is currently in his seventh season in the NFL. He has appeared in 78 games and made 42 starts. Smith spent five seasons with the Green Bay Packers before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.
"I would like to thank Idaho State for giving me this honor," Smith said. "I am so excited and honored that I have been able to represent ISU in such a positive light during my professional career."
Since leaving Idaho State Smith has stayed involved with Idaho State Athletics by being a member of the quarterback club and dedicating a locker in the football locker room.
