2015 ISU Softball Signing Class Announced

 
 
POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State softball coach Julie Wright has announced the program's 2015 recruiting class. Joining the Bengal softball program for the 2015-16 school year are Mariah Mulcahy, a pitcher from Warren, Oregon; Ashley Morris, an outfielder from Peoria, Ariz.; Reis Birkett, a catcher from Huntington Beach, Calif.; Kaitlyn Spohrer, an outfielder and third baseman from Cedar Park, Texas; Molly Nutt, an outfielder from Sandy, Ore.; and Aubrey Creekmore, an infielder from Middleton, Idaho.
 
"This is a tremendous class," Wright said. "They are all talented, grounded, and competitive young women.  They will be a force their entire careers together.  I cannot wait to get them here."

Here is a closer look at each of the six signees.

Mariah Mulcahy, Pitcher
Warren, Ore. St Helens HS
Plays for Northwest Blaze travel organization
High School Honors and stats: Freshmen year- first-team all-league, Pitcher of the Year in the NWOC, second-team all-state, scholar athlete, voted MVP. Sophomore year- first-team all-league, Pitcher of the Year in the NWOC, second-team all-state, scholar athlete, voted MVP. Junior year- first-team all-league, Pitcher of the Year in the NWOC, first-team all-state, scholar athlete, third in state, league champions, voted MVP. High school record to date: 50-17-1, 146 IP, 574 K's, 83 BBs, 70 hits with 20 shutouts and 1 no hitter. Junior year-league record- 17-5, 12 shutouts, 223 strikeouts, walked 27 in 146 innings, ERA  .58.

Coach Wright on Mariah:
"It has felt like this day would never come with Mariah.  Finally she will officially be a Bengal and we are thrilled to have her and her family.  She will bring a great deal of talent to the circle and an incredible competitive spirit.  I expect her to do amazing things in her career as a Bengal!"

Coach Wright on Ashley:
"Ash is the player you hope to have several of!  She works harder than her peers and that work ethic has really paid off over the last two years.  Her game has steadily improved as she has continued to play at a very high level.  I have no doubt she is going to be even better as a collegiate player.  We are thrilled to have Ashley and her family join ours."

High School: 2012: Laguna Hills High School tournament; junior Varsity: MVP Offensive award … 2012; JV: Most Valuable Player Award …  2013: Varsity: Rookie Of The Year Award … 2013: All League selection: second-team … 2013: Exceptional Achievement Award for qualifying for CIF Southern Section … 2013: Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award ... 2014: (did not play entire season because of knee injury but stayed in the bullpen all season working with our pitchers and catchers) received the Coaches Award ... 2014: Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award.

Travel ball: 2012 Corona Angels 14-U: first-place triple crown World Series … 2013 Corona Angels 16-U … 1st place triple crown World Series …  2014 Corona Angels 16-U runner up in Independence Day Tournament Boulder, Colo. … 2014 corona Angels 16-U: 3rd place Premier nationals.

Coach Wright on Reis:
"Reis is a tremendous talent behind the plate.  Her pure love of the game coupled with everyday work will make her a major force for us.  I expect wonderful things from her in her time here.  We are thrilled to have Reis and her parents join our family."

High School: Two Sport star in softball and basketball … Softball Honors include second-team all-league as a freshman and first-team all-league and all-state as a sophomore … as a sophomore was the OSAA class 5A state champion while batting .544 … As a junior was first-team all-league and all-state while batting .587 … in basketball was the starting varsity point guard since her freshman year … earned honorable mention all-league as a sophomore and second-team all-league as a junior … was sophomore class president as a sophomore, student-body vice-president as a junior and she is currently serving as the student-body president … as a junior and senior she has been a member of the National Honors Society and Treasurer and Secretary of the Key Club … academically ranked No. 1 in her class with a 4.0 GPA … was the Math Student of the Year as a sophomore and junior … the English Student of the Year as a sophomore and the History Student of the Year as a freshman.

Travel Ball: Former team, the Sandy Thunder, won the 16A state championship and then the 18A state championship. … currently plays on the same travel team as Mariah Mulcahy.

 
Coach Wright on Molly:
"Molly is a well-rounded and exceptional young lady. The most exciting thing about her is she is just figuring out how to use her tools to her advantage.  She is getting better daily and I expect her to really take off as a collegiate student-athlete.  We are very excited to welcome her and her family as Bengals"
