ISU Athletics Finishes Third in Big Sky Conference Presidents' Cup

This was the highest finish for the Bengal Athletic Department.

The Idaho State softball team won the 2013 Big Sky Conference regular season championship.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State Athletic Department had an outstanding year in the field of competition and in the classroom as a result the department finished third in the Big Sky Conference President's Cup. The third place finish was the highest-ever by the ISU Athletic Department.

"All credit goes to our student-athletes for their performance in their field of competition and in the classroom," Idaho State Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey said. "They worked hard and have represented Idaho State Athletics with class. The 2012-13 year was a great year for Bengal Athletics and we are looking forward to the start of the 2013-14 school year."

The Big Sky Conference Presidents' Cup, now in its 11th year, reinforces the Big Sky's dedication to the academic side of the student-athlete experience. Overall athletic success is combined with team grade point averages, Academic Progress Rates, and All-Conference performers with grade point averages of at least 3.0.

Idaho State placed first in the conference in overall academics. Northern Arizona won Presidents' Cup this year and Montana State, who won the honor last year finished second.

Academically, Idaho State had a record 183 student-athletes named to Big Sky All-Academic teams in the just completed academic year.

Idaho State finished the year with the second-highest GPA in the conference with a 3.27, just behind SUU's 3.31.

Overall, 128 of the 159 Big Sky Conference athletic teams finished with a GPA of at least 3.0.  A total of 254 First or Second Team All-Conference athletes finished the year with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Idaho State recorded the most with 37.  North Dakota was first overall in APR, followed by Northern Arizona and Idaho State.
