Galasso and Fitzsimmons Earn All-Region Honors

This is the first time ISU softball players have earned this accolade.

Vicky Galasso and Amanda Fitzsimmons were named to the NFCA all-region team.

POCATELLO, Idaho- Amanda Fitzsimmons and Vicky Galasso continue to garner post-season recognition. The two student-athletes became the first-ever Bengals to earn all-region honors as they were named to the NFCA second-team All-Pacific Region team.  The two are now eligible for selection to one of the three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams.

Other players named to the two all-region teams came from schools such as Cal, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Portland State, Oregon State and Utah.

Galasso, who was named the first-ever Big Sky Conference Player of the Year, and Fitzsimmons had record-breaking years for Idaho State in 2013. Galasso finished the 2013 season hitting .461 with 18 home runs and 60 RBI. The 18 home runs was the second-most in a single season as Fitzsimmons set the single-season record with 20 homers. Galasso's 60 RBI and 82 hits was an ISU single-season record while her 54 runs scored ranked second.

Fitzsimmons finished her senior season hitting .367 with 20 home runs and 43 RBI. She finished her career ranked first in runs scored (110), home runs (33) and RBI (101) and second in hits with 141. Fitzsimmons also finished 13-13 in the circle with 123 strikeouts in 163.2 innings of work in 2013.

The 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org.
