FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Idaho State women's tennis played a very close match with Texas-Pan American Sunday morning with the Broncos slightly edging the Bengals 4-3.
The Bengals won the doubles point after winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Marian Tangarife and freshman
Laura Theus defeated Dana Nazarova and Reegan Greenwood 9-8 at the No. 1 spot while freshmen
Kasey Bacon and
Madelyn Weltzin won the No. 3 doubles 8-6 against Manon Lavrijssen and Anastasia Burobina. Bacon and Weltzin are now a team-leading 4-5 on the year in doubles matches.
Tangarife and Bacon went on to win their singles matches as well.
Tangarife won the No. 1 singles in a very close three-set match. She defeated Didi Fatchikova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Tangarife is now 6-9 on the year so far.
Bacon won her second straight match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nazarova. Bacon is currently one win away from .500 with a 7-8 overall record on the season.
To make a 4-3 match even closer, freshmen Svenja Tegmeier and Weltzin took their matches to three sets. Tegtmeier ultimately lost the No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Weltzin lost the No. 4 position 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
ISU is now 4-11 on the year and now preps for conference match-ups with North Dakota and Northern Colorado Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
