BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team defeated in-state rival Boise State 2-1 as part of the spring season Saturday afternoon.
Boise State jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game but the Bengals answered back a minute later on a corner kick from
Madeline Gochnour.
ISU scored again in the 13
th minute as
Mikaela Carrillo and
Laura Benson set up a header for
Rachel Strawn.
All three of ISU's goalkeepers saw time in the net.
Carly Hutchings-Maloney returned to the field for the first time since breaking her leg in the 2012 spring season. Hutchings-Maloney had two saves in the contest.
“Even though it was a spring game, our team showed tremendous character throughout the entire match,” ISU Head Coach
Allison Gibson said. “We had three kids that played with the flu and two were injured. I am so incredibly proud at how well we handled the adversity and played hard to overcome it all. That was our first win over BSU spring or fall in a couple years, so it felt great.”
ISU's next spring contest will be on Saturday, April 13. Idaho State faces BYU in Provo, Utah at noon before taking on Utah Valley at 4 p.m.
