Hansen Hits School Record Nine 3's 87-51 in Win over Montana St.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team defeated Montana State University at Reed Gym 87-51 thanks to a career-high 27 points from Chris Hansen on a school-record nine 3-pointers.The 87 points was a season-high for the Bengals.  ISU moved to 4-11 in the Big Sky Conference and 5-19 overall.  Montana State moved to 7-8 in league and 10-13 overall.

“I have been pretty frustrated this entire season to be honest with you,” Hansen said. “I won't shoot like this every night but today felt like it has throughout my career. It was fun to see the ball finally go in.”

Idaho State shot a season-best 61.9 percent from the 3-point line. Melvin Morgan followed with 15 and Andre Hatchett had 12. 

The Bengals hit 13-21 3-points, with seven coming in the first half. For the game Idaho State shot 63.8 percent from the field (30-47) and 73.7 percent from the free throw line (14-19). The Bengals out rebounded Montana State 30-22 led by five from Morgan and Andre Hatchett.

Idaho State had a season-high 21 assists led by Tomas Sanchez' seven and only one turnover. Idaho State's defense forced Montana State into 17 turnovers for the game and37.8 percent shooting from the field.

The Bengals led the entire game and built their lead to 42-18 at halftime while shooting 65.2 percent from the field.  Idaho State forced 12 Bobcat turnovers and had seven steals in the first half.

Idaho State came out in the second half and extended its lead to as much as 38 points at 64-26 with 11:45 left in the game after a layup by Morgan. 

Idaho State returns to Reed Gym Saturday, February 16 for a 7 p.m. game against the University of Montana. 

“We need every win we can get right now,” Hansen said. “We are going to keep fighting for everything we can get. The only thing we can do it keep getting after it every day in practice.”
