POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State track and field continued the annual inner-squad Tie-Dye Meet today at Holt Arena. The second day included traditional track and field events in addition Assistant Coach
Brian Janssen's annual joker race and the RELAY. Bengals were split between the orange and black teams, alumni wore purple.
"We have a lot of kids doing a lot of different events, and I am really looking forward to this season," said Head Coach
Dave Nielsen. "This year has brought one of our best alumni turnouts. Not all of them are competing, but they are here, wearing their shirts and supporting us. It's great."
Notably,
Hayli Worthington - two-time Big Sky Champion in the 400m hurdles - won the 500m with a time of 1:17.77 and Idaho State record holder
Caitlin Maulin won the women's pole vault with a height of 12-03.50. Senior
Justin Critser-Lucas de-throned coach
Nathan Capps in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46. Capps has won the previous eight 60m hurdles at the Tie-Dye Meet.
It was Janssen's idea to start the Tie-Dye Meet. The week prior to the meet, the team meets at Nielsen's house to tie-dye shirts.
"We have a pretty fit team," said Nielsen. "We had a pretty good fall. We had some pretty good performances but not a ton of sharp performances. This gets them on the right track because we have meet the week after we get back from break. We need to be ready to go."
The Bengals are back in action on January 17-18 at the Reno Pole Vault Summit and the Snake River Open.
