POCATELLO, Idaho -
Senior Chloe Palakovich finished second with a time of 15:42 in the women's 4K at the Idaho State Invitational today at the Centennial Course. This is the first time Palakovich has led the Idaho State women, and she is the third member of the women's team to lead the team this season.

"For the rest of the season," said Palakovich, "we are going to focus on staying a pack at the beginning. We want to stay relaxed, pick teams off as we go and use the endurance we've built the first few weeks of the season."

Kylie Hutchison came in second for the Bengals with a fourth-place finish and time of 16:02. Audrey Urlacher was fifth with a time of 16:07, Katie Nichols was seventh with 16:50.60 and Callie Kettner was 10th with 16:40.

The women notched their first win of the season with 26 points over College of Idaho with 29 and Westminster with 85.

Bryce Jenkins led the Bengal men for the third time this season with his second-place finish and time of 19:05 in the men's 6K.

"We are working on getting our pack time down," said Jenkins. "That's the amount of time in between each runner. If we can pack up, and get that distance smaller, that will make our overall score better."

KC Husicker came in second for Idaho State and fifth overall with a time of 19:30. Ray Miller came in sixth with a time of 19:38, Nicasio Westlund was seventh with 19:52 and Dallin Webb wrapped it up for the Bengals with a 17th place finish and time of 20:45.

The men finished second overall with 33 points. College of Idaho won the meet with 31 points and Westminster finished third with 73 points.

"We are just trying to get better each week," said Head Cross Country Coach Brian Janssen. "We are trying to get the men to pack up a little better. They didn't do a great job of that today. We're a young team and they are trying to learn to train properly and they are doing a good job with that. Things are going okay, and we are getting better slowly."

The Bengals return on Oct. 6 for the Color Classic hosted by Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah. The time is to be announced.
