Countdown to Kickoff: 8 Days, Gate City Rotary Club Increases Bengal Spirit

Gate City Rotary Club is selling ISU Bengal Flags for $25.

Gate City Rotary flags are $25 for residents and $50 for businesses.
POCATELLO, Idaho- With the support of the Gate City Rotary Club, community members now have an opportunity to paint the city of Pocatello orange and black with Idaho State Bengal flags for all ISU home football games. Idaho State Bengal flags are priced at $25 for residents and $50 for businesses. An impressive 350 flags have already been sold to Bengal supporters.

The Gate City Rotary Club has been serving the Pocatello community since 1918. The club's service projects have been directed towards supporting literacy programs, helping the Idaho Foodbank organization, providing Christmas for families, serving international needs and much more.

Trying to expound on new ideas to serve the community, the idea to sell Bengal Flags came from one specific member of the Gate City Rotary Club, Jerry Miller. Miller has worked for ISU for more than 24 years and is currently a play-by-play radio announcer for the ISU men's basketball and football teams.

"After 24 years of broadcasting ISU sports on the radio, I've always wanted to see the visible kind of community support for the Bengals and Idaho State University that I've seen in literally dozens and dozens of other college towns around the country, and it has seldom mattered at those other schools whether they had winning programs or not,” Miller said.

Miller's idea came to him as he remembered a simple act that boy scouts perform on some holidays throughout the year. This specific act took boy scouts from door to door asking residents if they would purchase a United States flag to put in their front yard. Those residents who purchased US flags showed patriotism and support for their country.

Similarly, Miller wants to take that idea and bring Idaho State University and the community together to form an even greater two-way support system.

“Even though I'm not an ISU Alum I bleed black and orange, and want the athletes at ISU to know the community supports them,” Miller said.

Purchasing these flags will allow Gate City Rotary Club to continue to serve people all over the world and continue to make a difference in the lives of those who are in need.
