POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State offense combined for 494 total yards and five touchdowns Saturday in the 2012 Dave Kragthorpe Classic. Sophomore
Daniel McSurdy led the rushing effort, recording eight carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns in the scrimmage.
“We have been waiting for a breakout on the running attack,” ISU Head Coach
Mike Kramer said. “We blitzed ourselves out of some things but Daniel had great vision. I couldn't be more proud of him. The emphasis on this team is that we need to run the ball more effectively and Dan McSurdy showed today that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with this fall.”
Senior quarterback
Kevin Yost went 10-for-13 for 163 yards and one touchdown while junior quarterback
Justin Arias went 14-for-18 for 110 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Redshirt freshman quarterback
Brad Kragthorpe went 12-for-17 for 85 years and one touchdown.
Junior wide receiver
Luke Austin led the reception effort with six catches for 81 yards and one touchdown. Senior
Rodrick Rumble was close behind with three catches for 76 yards and one touchdown. Redshirt freshman
Chase Place had five catches for 34 yards and one touchdown. Senior
Josh Hill had nine catches for 84 yards.
The defense recorded two sacks, one fumble and one interception in the match-up.
Sophomore
Mitch Beckstead led the defense with 10 tackles and one fumble recovery. Sophomore
David Forester had two tackles and one sack while redshirt freshman
Chris Edwards also notched a sack. Senior
Anthony Boyles posted five tackles and one interception.
“I think
Jake Pele and
Mitch Beckstead will be two of the best linebackers I have coached,” Kramer said.
With the close of the spring season, Idaho State will not compete again until the team kicks off the 2012 season Saturday, Sept. 1 against Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
