Bengals Battle Cougars Hard, Tie 1-1

Women’s soccer wraps up spring season tomorrow against Boise State

Senior Megan Stainbrook scored ISU's goal in Saturday's 1-1 tie with Washington State.
BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho State women's soccer team tied 1-1 with Pac-12 foe Washington State Saturday afternoon. A traditionally strong soccer program, the Cougars come off a 2011 season where they finished fourth in the Pac-12 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
“Washington State is a really strong program,” ISU Head Coach Allison Gibson said. “We were very excited to be able to play them today.”
 
Idaho State scored its first goal with five minutes remaining in the 35-minute half. Senior Alex Hansen assisted to fellow senior Megan Stainbrook for the goal.
 
Washington State answered before the close of the half to tie the score at 1-1.
 
Neither team would score again during the game to leave the score tied.
 
“I've never been so proud of a team before,” Gibson said. “This team fought extremely hard today and really took it to them. They were definitely out to win this game. It was a phenomenal performance by everyone and I am super proud and happy.”
 
The Bengals play their final match of the spring season Sunday at noon against Boise State.
