PROVO, Utah – The Idaho State soccer team defeated conference-rival Weber State 2-1 Saturday as part of the BYU Outdoor Tournament.
The Wildcats scored first, knocking in a goal at the 44-minute mark. ISU answered back with two goals late in the game.
The first came at the 70-minute mark off a corner kick. Sophomore
Allyson Stainbrook connected with freshman
Amanda Ellsworth.
Ellsworth scored the game-winning goal as well as freshman
Allyssa Kenney assisted off a corner kick with five minutes remaining in the contest.
Idaho State also competed against Utah Valley Saturday. The Bengals had five shots on goal but were unable to get the point.
Utah Valley won the contest 1-0 and scored the game-winning goal off a free kick. ISU goalie
Carly Hutchings-Maloney made the initial save on the shot but the ball was redirected from a UVU player at the top of the box.
“I was very pleased with the level of our play today,” ISU Head Coach
Allison Gibson said. “We dominated both games and fought to the very end. Unfortunately we came up short in game two but they were night and day performances from our games against these two teams in the fall.”
ISU soccer travels to Boise next weekend for two match-ups to finish the spring season.
