Nate Gross has been named Bengal Athlete of the Week for his performances last week at the annual Las Vegas tournament. With wins against Seattle and Western New Mexico, the ISU men's tennis program went on a four-match winning streak, the longest winning streak for the program since the 2003-04 season.
Against Seattle, Gross and teammate
Dan Buckingham won the No. 2 doubles 8-6 and Gross went on to win the No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4.
In the match-up against Western New Mexico, Gross and Buckingham won the No. 2 doubles 8-2 and Gross won the No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4.
Against UC Riverside, the Bengals dropped a close match 4-3. However, Gross and Buckingham kept their doubles winning streak alive, taking the No. 2 spot 9-8.
With a 7-7 record in the No. 2 singles on the season, Gross has the third best record at that position in the Big Sky Conference. Gross and Buckingham lead Idaho State with an 8-6 doubles record.
Gross and the rest of the Bengals host their final home matches of the season this weekend. ISU faces Montana State Friday, March 30 at 1 p.m. and Montana Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
