Laura Porras has been chosen as the Bengal Athlete of the Week for matches played between February 14-20. Porras helped the Idaho State women's tennis team win over conference foes Weber State and Portland State last week. The wins mark the first time the ISU women have defeated two Big Sky teams since the 2003-04 season.
Porras went 2-1 last week in both singles and doubles. She defeated Tanner of Weber State 6-1, 6-1 and Pellicano of Portland State 6-3, 6-2 in singles. In doubles, Porras teamed up with
Katharina Marsela to defeat Moore and Tanner of WSU, 7-6 and Pellicano and Govi of PSU, 8-3.
This is Porras' first career Bengal Athlete of the Week award and the first for the women's tennis team this season. Teammate
Katharina Marsela earned a B.A.W. award during the fall season. The Bengals go up against Sacramento State Friday, Feb. 24. The match will be held in Sacramento at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club at 3 p.m.
