POCATELLO, Idaho - Senior Keane Schuler led the Bengals, placing second with a time of 19:21.90 at the Bengal Invitational on Saturday at the Centennial Course. Last week, as an unattached runner, he placed sixth with a time of 19:36.70. As a team, the Idaho State men placed third with 55 points behind Great Falls with 32 points and the College of Idaho with 37 points.
“My improvement from last week to this week was quite substantial,” said Schuler. “We have been working pretty hard this week; knowing that I can run that fast has given me a lot of confidence. If we can keep doing what we are doing, I think we can be a pretty good team.”
Junior Bryce Jenkins came in second for the Bengals and fourth overall with a time of 19:32.00, taking 10 seconds off last week's time. Eric Strand finished eighth with 19:54.50, KC Hunsiker was 10th with 20:02.10 and Nicasio Westland was 13th with 20:25.17.
“This week, a lot of the men ran a lot faster. Keane Schuler had a great race,” said Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach
Brian Janssen. “I think we are headed in the right direction.”
Up next, the Bengals will travel to Provo, Utah for the Brigham Young Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16. The time is to be announced.
