POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State University awarded its first-ever Bengal Athlete of the Week honor to senior defender
Megan Stainbrook Monday morning. The award was created to honor Idaho State student-athletes for outstanding performances each week. The first Bengal Athlete of the Week is for games played from Aug. 22-28.
Stainbrook headed in the game-tying goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation to allow Idaho State to defeat Nevada 2-1 in double-overtime. Stainbrook was assisted on the goal by her sister
Allyson Stainbrook who served up the corner kick in the final minutes.
The Bengals had allowed a Nevada goal 13:08 into the contest but never gave up. Stainbrook, a defender, was moved to the midfield position at halftime to get closer to the goal for the opportunity to score. She played all 107 minutes of the double-overtime contest recording two shots with one on goal.
ISU's victory over Nevada gave the Bengals a 3-0 start to the season; ISU's first since 2003. Earlier in the week she posted one on goal shot in 46 minutes of play during ISU's 4-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene at Davis Field.
