POCATELLO, Idaho- As the Idaho State offense continues to grow trough out fall camp, one thing has become apparent and that is
Braeden Clayson has turned into the leader of the offensive line. Following Saturday afternoon's second scrimmage at Holt Arena, Idaho State coach
Mike Kramer praised the efforts of the senior captain.
“
Braeden Clayson is an inspiration on the offensive front,” Kramer said. “He played outstanding and he has had an outstanding camp. He is one of the premiere players in the conference on the offensive line. He has really had a nice camp, a nice career and I couldn't be happier that he is playing so well.”
The 84 play scrimmage lasted 71 minutes and saw many highlights from the offense and defense. The only down side to the scrimmage was the Bengals lost defensive lineman
Leki Fuapau for the rest of the season with a major knee injury that he suffered in the scrimmage.
“He was having the best camp of any defender on our team,” Kramer said.
Kevin Yost threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to
Derek Graves, a 21-yarder to
Luke Austin and a 43 yard touchdown reception to
Rodrick Rumble. Freshman
Brad Kragthorpe tossed a 25-yarder to
Kelvin Krosch and
Justin Arias hit Rumble on a 10-yard touchdown reception.
Tavoy Moore also had a five-yard touchdown run.
Defensively,
Mitch Beckstead picked off a Kragthorpe pass while
Ed Pritchett also had an interception. The defense had a safety and
Taylor Ragan recorded a pass deflection.
“We did a good job today defensively,” Kramer said. “We tried to do everything we could to take away their favorite receivers and for us that is
Rodrick Rumble. We wanted to make sure we took as much away from him as possible. He has to find away to get open in the double coverage.”
CJ Reyes made a 45, 43 and 34 yard field goal but missed a 42-yarder.
Brendon Garcia knocked in a 30 yard field goal.
The excitement of football season just around the corner brought out a nice crowd to Holt Arena to watch the second scrimmage.
“Our obligation is to win every game regardless of who we play,” Kramer said. “I hope fans understand that we want to be exciting but we have a responsibility to our university, our students and to our entire fan base to be the best team we can be on every play. We weren't at all times today.”
