POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State men's basketball coach Joe O'Brien has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 men's basketball season. The schedule includes 14 home dates starting with a Nov. 5 exhibition game vs. Rocky Mountain College and nonconference games against schools from the Big 12, Pac 12, Mountain West, WAC, West Coast and Great West Conferences.
The regular season starts with a two-game road trip at Oklahoma (Nov. 11) and at North Dakota (Nov. 14). North Dakota is a future Big Sky Conference member and currently plays in the Great West Conference.
The Bengals then return to Pocatello for their home opener vs. Colorado Christian on Nov. 18 and follow by hosting Loyola Marymount on Nov. 23. Both of those games will be played at Reed Gym.
Following Thanksgiving, ISU hosts Utah State at 7 p.m. in Holt Arena and then plays at New Mexico on Nov. 30.
The Bengals are home twice in the month of December and that is Dec. 3 vs. North Dakota and Dec. 22 against Wyoming. ISU plays at Boise State (Dec. 5), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 10), Utah (Dec. 16) and starts conference play Dec. 29 at Weber State.
“Our nonconference schedule is one that will test us and help us prepare for what will be a very competitive schedule Big Sky Conference,” O'Brien said. “Our staff is excited to get the team back on campus this fall to begin preparation for the upcoming year.”
Idaho State will mix in two more nonconference games during the middle of conference play as they play at Wyoming on Jan 9 and then will be on the road for a bracketbuster game the weekend of the Feb. 18.
The 2012 year will begin in Greeley, Colo., with a game at Northern Colorado and the conference home schedule starts January 5 and 7 vs. Montana State and Montana.
The remaining conference home games are vs. NAU (Jan. 21), Northern Colorado, (Jan. 26), Weber State (Jan. 28), Portland State (Feb. 9), Eastern Washington (Feb. 23) and Sacramento State (Feb. 25).
Idaho State's remaining road Big Sky games are at Sacramento State (Jan. 14), Portland State (Jan. 16), Montana State (Feb. 2), Montana (Feb. 6), NAU (Feb. 10) and Eastern Washington (Feb. 28).
The quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament will be held March 3 with the semi-finals and final taking place March 6-7 at the Big Sky Regular Season champion.
