POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State Athletics Department has announced that Hellas Construction, Inc. will be the company that installs the new field turf at Holt Arena. Installation will begin July 1 and the process will take six weeks to complete.
“Hellas Construction, Inc. is excited to add Idaho State University's Holt Arena to its list of high profile installations,” Bruce Layman, Vice President of the Turf Division of Hellas Construction. “We are thrilled our Matrix removable system was selected for this project. We know this selection will add to Holt Arena's versatility and ability to increase utilization. Lastly, we are especially proud to be a part of this project as Holt Arena was the first removable synthetic turf system installed in the world in the 1970's. We know that we are dealing with a “savvy” customer when it comes to synthetic turf for its' sports facilities and the Matrix turf is unmatched in quality in today's sports facilities.”
The type of turf that will be used is called SoftTop Removable Matrix System. It is a synthetic turf system that includes a plurality of filled artificial turf panels that can be disconnected, rolled up and stored, and then later unrolled and reconnected.
The secured & dense turf panels with hook and loop fasteners along the edges facilitate a durable, simple and cost-effective solution. There is three pounds of rubber infill per square foot that will be in the field. The entire field will be 75,600 square feet, thus the infill material will weigh 226,800 pounds. The turf will also consist of 31 five-yard strips.
With SoftTop, a facility can accommodate a wide variety of sporting and non-sporting events, with no adverse effects on the playability of the turf. Matrix synthetic turf is the premier product in the market place today, installed in facilities such as the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Hellas Construction has also installed turf at Idaho, NAU and they are currently doing Weber State's field.
“We are excited to begin the installation of our new turf at Holt Arena and thrilled that Hellas Construction will be the company doing the work,” Idaho State Director of Athletic
Jeff Tingey said. “Hellas Construction is a proven company and we look forward to working with them during the installation process.”
Each end zone on the turf will be orange with black tiger stripes with Idaho State written in one end zone and Bengals in the other. The IS logo will be at midfield and the ISU Credit Union logo will be on each sideline with Idaho Orthopedic Sports Clinic also having their logo on each side of the field.
