Mike Kramer has announced the signing of
Taylor Ragan to a National Letter of Intent and Cody Sorenson and
Tyler Myers have accepted invitations to attend school at Idaho State and play football.
Ragan (6-2, 215) earned first-team All-Kingco as an inside linebacker in 2009 and 2010 and was named to the All-Bellevue Area team. He recorded 132 tackles and was nominated for the East/West All-Star game. Ragan also participated on the track team where he earned first-team all 200 meters.
“Taylor came to my attention last spring at Washington State,” Kramer said. “While considering walking on at Washington State before I was hired we quickly moved in his direction in December. He has been excellent on a subpar high school football team and will contend for playing time immediately.”
Sorenson (5-8, 175) prepped at Ferris High School in Spokane, Wash., where he helped lead his team to the 4A Washington State title with a perfect 14-0 record. He had 223 tackles for his career, 112 as a senior along with 15 pass breakups, 12 tackles for losses, four interceptions and four forced fumbles. Sorenson was a team-captain and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game. As a senior he was named to the first-team All-GSL as a safety. Academically he is a member of the National Honor Society. His parents are Paul Sorenson and Christina Balkenbush. Paul was an All-American at Washington State. Sorenson also play's baseball where he boasts a .310 batting average.
“He is one the top players in the state of Washington and he was a key player in their drive for the state championship,” Kramer said. “He is a smart, heady player and is expected to contribute right away.”
Myers (6-3, 205) will graduate from Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls where he lettered in football, basketball and track and field. While playing football he earned the Offensive Player of the Year award at Canyon Ridge in 2009 and 2010 and he was the State of Idaho all-state punter as a senior. Myers garnered honorable mention as a safety and was named the MVP of the ISU football camp in 2010. In 2009 he was named the 4A Great Basin Conference Honorable Mention quarterback and the 4A first-team Great Basin Conference punter. Myers is the son of Dustin Myers and Danielle Tomkinson.
“He is a big strapping outside linebacker with good range of speed,” Kramer said. “He has the ability to make plays in the open field.”
ISU Football Notes
On Friday at 5 p.m. the Idaho State football team will hold its annual spring game at Holt Arena. The event is free to the public. At halftime of the scrimmage coach
Mike Kramer will give out team awards as well as name team captains for the upcoming 2011 season.
