POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State football coach Mike Kramer has announced the hiring of eight assistant coaches to his staff.
Joining the staff as the Associated Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator is Don Bailey. Bailey graduated from Portland State and was on Pokey Allen's staff at Portland State and Boise State. Bailey also joined Kramer at Montana State in 2001 and served as the offensive coordinator and receivers coach until 2007.
After Bailey's time at Montana State he was the wide receiver's coach at Weber State for the 2007 season and in 2008 he served as the passing game coordinator, quarterback and wide receiver's coach at South Dakota State.
Other offensive coaches are Derrick Roche, a former Washington State player and offensive line graduate assistant at UTEP from 2005-07. Roche, who will coach the offensive line, is currently at Millersville College in Pennsylvania. While coaching at Millersville, Roche was the offensive line and tight ends coach along with the run game coordinator.
The wide receivers coach is Craig Stutzman, who has spent the last season at the University of Memphis as a graduate assistant coaching the wide receivers. Stutzman played at Hawaii and coached at Portland State before going to Memphis. At Portland State, Stutzman was the wide receivers coach.
Matt Troxel will coach the tight ends. He played his college football at Montana and is currently a graduate assistant at Idaho. He will join the team on December 6 after Idaho plays its final football game vs. San Jose State. While at Idaho he was the GA offensive line coach this year and in 2009 he was the GA wide receivers coach. In 2008 he was a student-assistant at Montana where he worked with the wide receivers.
On the defensive side, Rudy Griffin will coach the inside linebackers. Griffin played at Citadel and then transferred to Alabama where he was a two-year starter. He was a graduate assistant at Washington State where he worked specifically with the offensive line. Prior to joining Washington State he coached at Dakota State and Demopolis High School in Alabama. While at Demopolis he was the defensive coordinator at linebackers coach for two years.
Todd Bates has been hired as the defensive line coach. Bates was a three-year starter and team-captain at Alabama. He is currently working at Oxford High School in Alabama and will join the coaching staff on March 1, 2011.
Coaching the outside linebackers is Ryan Smaha. Smaha coached at ISU under Larry Lewis and he coached at Western Oregon this past season. Smaha played at Eastern Oregon and was also a graduate assistant at Washington and a coach in Europe.
The defensive backs coach is Daniel Drayton, who is currently a graduate assistant at Oregon State. He will join the staff on December 6 after the Oregon/Oregon State football game.
Kramer is still in the search process for a running backs coach and academic coordinator.
