Chad Teichert begins his seventh season at Idaho State on the heels of his best season, leading the Bengals to their first Big Sky title in over two decades.

The Bengals finished third in the regular season but were dominant in the Big Sky Tournament where they lost just two sets in three matches. They swept the tournament host portland State in the championship match to earn the third trip to NCAA tournament in Idaho State history. Mackenzie Filer was named the Big Sky All-Tournament MVP. The Bengals faced Hawaii in the first round and lost 3-1. The match did mark the first set win for a Big Sky Conference team in the NCAA Tournament  since 2009.

In his first season at Idaho State he led the Bengals to a 10-match win season, the first since 2006. He posted a 10-20 overall and 5-11 Big Sky record his first season with the Bengals.  In his second season he improved upon his record, leading the Bengals to a 13-15 season and a 7-9 Big Sky record with a fifth-place finish in the regular season.

In 2010, the Bengals finished third in the conference regular season with a 9-7 record, reaching the conference tournament for the first time since 2005 when it was a six-team event. The overall record for the Bengals was 18-13, Teichert’s first winning record as a head coach and ISU’s first winning record since 2003.

Teichert has also proven himself to be effective in developing players individually. In 2011, Breanne Van Every became the first athlete under Teichert to earn All-Big Sky Conference First Team honors. In 2009, Emily Waldron garnered Second Team All-Big Sky honors and Paige Palmer earned an honorable mention award. In 2010, three Bengal seniors earned all-conference awards in Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse (second team), Haylee Thompson-Brock (second team) and Sarah Carson (honorable mention). Vanessa Muir was named all-conference honorable mention in 2011.

Teichert’s athletes also perform well in the classroom. Since his first season, 13 different student-athletes have earned Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors, including Karissa Legaux who earned all-academic honors all four years of her career under Teichert and capped her career after being awarded the Female Big Sky Scholar Athlete award at the 2012 Bennion Banquet.

Under Teichert, Idaho State players have earned all-tournament team honors nine times.  Bartschi-Rhodehouse was also named to the Big Sky Conference All-Tournament Team in 2010, becoming the first Bengal player to earn that honor since Ali Gorny, the current Idaho State assistant coach, earned all-tournament honors in 2003.

Teichert brings to Idaho State over 25 years of coaching experience, both on the high school and club level. He is one of the top volleyball clinicians in the nation and one of the nation’s winningest high school coaches. Teichert has organized and conducted over 450 camps and clinics for players and teams at all levels, including high school, club, and collegiate level.

He was perhaps the most successful high school coach in Wyoming history, leading three separate schools for a cumulative record of 397-83 (.827), winning 10 state titles in 16 years, including a run of eight straight titles. Included among his high school exploits was a 142-match winning streak in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. Teichert sent several athletes to Division I programs around the country. He also was an assistant coach with the National Junior Olympic Team, coaching several eventual college All-Americans and Olympians.

His teams at Cokeville (1983-93) Mountain View (1994-98) and Green River (1998-2000) combined to win 43 of the 65 tournaments they entered as well, a .661 tournament championship percentage.

Teichert, who left the coaching profession in 2000 to care for his wife Kristine during an illness, spent seven years as one of the foremost clinicians and teachers of the game. He developed and organized the highly successful “State Champs” Coaching Clinics, with coaches from Alaska to California to New York attending. He also was a member for a time with the Mikasa National Advisory Board, and he worked with both Mizuno and Blocksport in securing sponsorships for the Wyoming All-Star match. He also has spent time coaching various club volleyball programs for both the AAU and USA club programs.

Teichert is a former student-athlete himself, having wrestled while at Brigham Young, where he graduated with a degree in physical education in 1982, with minors in history and English. Teichert qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 150-pound weight class in 1980. He has four children; Kami, Rondo, Tanner and Caleb. His wife Kristine passed away in 2000. Before his first season at Idaho State, Teichert married Susan Bluemel of Lyman, Wyoming.
